about trinity

God's Mission for Trinity
Welcome. Nurture. Serve.

In order to put Christ first, we WELCOME people into the church, inviting them to receive the love and grace of Jesus so they may know themselves as children of God.

We NURTURE people in faith to support their learning and growth as followers of Jesus.

We send people out to SERVE people in emotional, spiritual, and physical need in the congregation, the community, and the world.

What We Believe

Trinity Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are formed by that Lutheran theological tradition, and we live by the following Core Values:
  1. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The death and resurrection of Jesus saves us, not anything we do.
  2. God creates all people with purposeful gifts to fulfill God's plan.
  3. Prayer, the gift of intimate communication with God, empowers us for ministry.
  4. We are to grow in knowledge, love in action, and faithful stewardship as the teachings of scripture equip us for our daily walk of faith.
  5. Regular worship honors God and feeds the soul.
  6. Lives are transformed by deepening relationships.
  7. Lost people matter to God. Reaching out and bringing Christ to non-believers isn't an option--it's an imperative.
  8. We serve Christ by serving others. Sacrificial giving to broken people brings healing and joy to all.
  9. We are to risk comfort for the sake of effective ministry. Submission to God is an invitation to a new way of life.
  10. Ministry in the name of Jesus deserves our very best!

Our History in Canton

Trinity has been sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in Canton since 1890, when we were first organized as Bethlehem Swedish Lutheran Church. The name was changed in 1926 from Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and we moved into our current building in 1927. We continue to serve God and our neighbors in Canton from here on 3rd and Chestnut!
Our Pastor
Picture
The Rev. Micah Garnett started serving as our pastor in 2016 after serving his first five years as a pastor in Monticello, Illinois. Originally from Pennsylvania, Pastor Micah graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 2011. He studied computer science in college and loves using technology to help people hear the good news of Jesus Christ. He also works closely with many of the social workers who serve Fulton County residents. His big hobby is cycling, and he rides his bike to work most days - feel free to wave or stop to chat if you see him out and about!
